In the UK the right-to-die group is sponsoring a helpline for people who are terminally ill. People who are ill or their family can call for advice about ending their life and having a good death. It is a free phone line. The aim of this phone line is to help the patient, because the organization thinks it should be the patients choice. Not everyone is amused about this helpline. The anti-euthanasia activists are against this helpline. The helpline is also against the politics in England, because euthanasia is not legal. Helping someone to die is still a crime. That is why a lot of English people travel to a clinic in Switzerland to die there.
My opinion:
I think the organization is right. It should be the choice of the patient. Why should people, who are very ill or their family have to suffer much longer, but that is my opinion. Although it is against the English law. That is why I don't think a helpline for euthanasia is useful. The law doesn't approve this kind of decisions. It isn't legal in England to help someone to end their life's, so what can a helpline do? I'm very curious about this helpline. Are there people calling, what kind of information do patients get and what will the government do with this helpline. Is the helpline legal?!
